CJ's 8th Birthday

May 25, 2008

It was a very nice day to have a backyard party for CJ. The weather forecast said cloudy and 30% chance of rain, but it never rained. Whew! Our prayers were answered.

Was not able to take pictures of our little carnival games, since the photographer (me) was facilitating the games hehe. We did balloon dart, ring toss, bucket bonanza and duck

50mm f1.8 and 430ex speedlite

Thanks Bush for the stimulus check! I was able to get more stuff for my 'newbie' gear. I figured I will be doing more portrait shots, because I have kids, so I decided to get the cheap Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens .. plus I read a lot of good reviews on it.. And so I tried a few shots and am loving it already.

Earthquake In The Midwest?

Unusual .. but yes, we were awakened by the bed shaking and some rattling sound at 4:40am today. At first I thought it was something paranormal, since me and my husband has been watching a lot of paranormal tv shows lately hehe, but then thought it could be an earthquake. We did feel the earthquake 2 or 3 years ago that also hit the midwest. This one, though, was a bit stronger. More people felt it. It was said to be 5.2 magnitude in the epicenter, somewhere in Southern Illinois and Indiana border.

For people in the Midwest, this is a big deal. It's not like California. hehe.

An AMAZING illusion...

I see this go both ways. When I concentrate on looking at it, it goes counter clockwise. And when I look at it as a whole or when I tend to space out I see it go clockwise.

Dress Code for Social Occasions

A couple of weddings and special events are coming up .. and everytime events like these come up, my parents, especially my mom, would ask me what they should wear. Although I pretty much know most dress codes for social events, I still dug in the web and compiled these attire ettiquette:
White Tie

A White Tie or Ultra-formal invitation requires men wear full dress, with white tie, vest, shirt. Women wear long gowns. White tie is also known as "Strictly Formal".

"strictly formal" would mean a formal dress or gown with a length that hits the floor. It means wearing those fancy wraps and formal jewelry right alongside beaded purses and clutches that have been waiting in your closet for an occasion such as this.

strictly formal affair, gentlemen are required to wear white tie and tails, while ladies should be clad in evening gown.

Think about balls, nobel banquets, masquerades, or royal events.

Black Tie

A Black Tie invitation calls for form...

My Eyes Are On This Camera ..

The Canon EOS 40D is the newest addition to Canon's extensive range of digital SLR cameras. Canon splits its DSLRs into three separate ranges, identified by the number of digits in the model name. The EOS 400D is the 'amateur' model, the EOS 1D and 1Ds are the 'pro' models, but in between is a series of semi-pro SLRs which are designed to appeal to keen enthusiasts, combining more advanced features and better build quality than the amateur models but without the expense of the pro cameras. The Canon EOS 40D is the latest of these semi-pro models, following on from the 8 megapixel 30D. It's not before time, either, because Canon's beginner-orientated EOS 400D has been out for some time now and, during that time, the more expensive 30D has had a lower resolution sensor. The 10-megapixel sensor in the new EOS 40D puts that right, and as well as being more robust and better-made than the 400D, it offers a number of other significant advantages. These include the ability to sho...
